Photography Investment & Details

If you’re drawn to photographs that feel beautiful without feeling too polished, you’re probably in the right place.

I care about the good stuff: the people you love, the way it actually feels to be together, and the little things that happen when no one is trying too hard.

I’ll always appreciate beautiful light and a thoughtfully made photograph, but I’m much more interested in meaning than perfection.

You don’t need to know what to do in front of the camera. You don’t need to perform or have everything perfectly planned. I’ll give direction when you need it, make room for the unexpected, and pay attention to the things worth remembering.

Beautiful photographs. Real people. Meaning > perfection.

WHY SMALL WEDDINGS?

WHY SMALL WEDDINGS?

I’ve been photographing weddings for well over a decade now. Hundreds of them. I started when I was young, built a business I was really proud of, and for years photography was how I made my living.

Then I had my beautiful two kids. And somewhere in there I decided it would be a perfectly reasonable idea to go back to graduate school for speech-language pathology while raising them. My camera got put down more than it ever had before.

I missed beautiful light and people who really love each other. I missed the weird little things that happen at weddings that nobody could have planned. I missed making photographs that might not seem like the important ones now, but probably will be twenty years from now.

And after photographing weddings for as long as I have, I’ve realized that those things don’t require a twelve-hour timeline or a huge wedding.

Give me your people. Your grandmother on the front row. Your dad trying not to cry. A ceremony in your parents’ backyard. Twenty people at a long dinner table. A courthouse afternoon followed by somewhere really good to eat. Get married in the mountains with ten people you love and let’s make some beautiful pictures while we’re there. I really just love people and love to create beautiful art, and that part of me never went away.

I also have enough weddings under my belt to be pretty unfazed by them. I can organize a family quickly. I know how to find good light. I know when you need some direction and when you need me to disappear for a minute and just watch. If we get off schedule, we’ll figure it out. If it rains, we’ll figure that out too.

These days, I’m taking on a small number of weddings and keeping them intimate. It works well for the life I have now, and if I’m being truthful, it’s where my heart is creatively too.

I want to show up, make something beautiful, pay attention to your people, and send you back to your wedding.

That sounds like a pretty good way to spend a Saturday (or a Monday?!) to me!

trust is everything

I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings and families over the last decade, and one thing I know for sure is that people photograph differently when they feel comfortable. You don’t need to be good at this. You don’t need to know where to put your hands. You don’t need to spend your wedding day wondering whether I’m getting what I need.

I’ll give you direction. I’ll tell you when the light is really good. I’ll fix the thing that needs fixing. And when everything is happening exactly as it should, I’ll leave it alone and take the picture.

You bring your people and your wedding. I’ll bring the experience!

FAQ

HOW DO I BOOK YOU FOR MY WEDDING? HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK?

Whenever you know you’d like me there, reach out! Small weddings tend to come together on all sorts of timelines. Some couples plan a year ahead and some decide a few months—or weeks—before that they’d really like to have someone there to photograph it.

I’m keeping my wedding calendar intentionally small these days, but that also means I sometimes have availability for celebrations that come together closer to the date. So even if your wedding is soon, ask me.

Fill out my inquiry form and tell me what you’re planning, who will be there, and what you’re excited about. I’ll send over my availability and we can go from there.

Your date is officially yours once the agreement is signed and the retainer is paid.

I WOULD LOVE TO BOOK YOU FOR MY DATE! ARE YOU AVAILABLE?

That is AWESOME! In order to provide my clients with the highest caliber of service possible, I only book two weddings per month. I do have weddings on the books for 2022 and 2023, and do not double-book myself for an event day. Shoot me a line to see if I'm available for your date and if we are a good fit together!

WHAT IS YOUR PHOTOGRAPHIC AND EDITING STYLE?

This is always a funny one to put into words because I think the photographs probably explain it better than I can.

I'm heavily influenced by the color authenticity found in film: rich colors, pure skin tones, and beautiful textures. I spent my life geared towards the visual arts - painting, ceramics, drawing - you name it. With that said, my passion for the complex history of fine art inspires a timeless quality both visually and emotionally within my work.

I want skin to look like skin. I like rich, honest color. I love a photograph with some movement in it. I’ll straighten your dress and put you in good light, but I’m also watching what’s happening behind me while I do it.

After more than a decade of photographing weddings, the photographs I care about most are usually some combination of beautiful and real.

That’s what I’m looking for when I shoot, and it’s what I’m looking for when I edit too.

I’ve spent year refining my editing skills, and I’m a huge believer in that a good photographer can see the photo from shutter button to final product. I believe my practice in editing has created a cohesion within my work, but I do treat each wedding and session differently - editing in the most beautiful way that feels the most representative of my clients. Across the board, I seek good compositions, natural emotions, and gorgeous tones.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED? DO YOU TRAVEL FOR PHOTO SHOOTS AND WEDDINGS?

I’m based in North Augusta, South Carolina, right across the river from Augusta, Georgia.

I’ve traveled quite a bit for photography over the years, so if you’re planning something somewhere else, tell me about it. I’m always open to going somewhere good.

Travel fees may apply depending on location.

WHAT IS YOUR WORKING STYLE?

My intention for my working style is that it falls somewhere between a healthy balance of focused and relaxed. I take weddings seriously: the sacredness, the importance, my task at hand as the photographer.

But I also like to make my role in the day as uncomplicated as possible for my brides and grooms. I work hard on the front-end to have all my ducks in a row so that the day-of can be focused on creating a photography experience that is low-pressure and joyful.

ARE ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS IMPORTANT? WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO HAVE ONE?

I'm a huge advocate for engagement sessions, which is why I offer them complimentary with each wedding collection. Engagements are an opportunity for us to work together, further get to know one another, and to help ease any nerves about being in front of the camera. If you have camera weariness (which is TOTALLY normal, by the way), I will help guide you and find your rhythm so you’re feeling great in no time!
